Trunk Club review #2

I forgot my Trunk Club box was coming, but wow, I got some good stuff this time. This is actually my third time getting a trunk, but I didn’t end up taking pictures of the last one. I had ended up keeping the World’s Best maxi dress that was too long on me, but I brought it to Nordstrom and they hemmed it for free.

This trunk included a few dresses that my stylist hit it out of the park with. The only reason I didn’t get them all is because I’ve collected quite a few dresses already and I don’t really neeeeed anymore.

So let’s dive in, shall we? And if you decide to try it, use my link and you’ll get a $50 credit when you make your first purchase!

TRUNK CLUB REVIEW

Trunk Club is Nordstrom’s online styling service and it works similarly to other clothing subscription boxes. I actually like this concept because you know you’re getting high-quality clothes from Nordstrom. You fill out a style profile and if you’re looking for any particular items of clothing. Then you’re assigned a stylist and (here’s the best part) they will send you a preview of what they picked out before it sends to you. That way you can look over everything and remove anything you don’t like or is too expensive and can even replace them with other items. Just like other subscriptions, you keep what you like and mail back what you don’t. Another awesome perk is that I can have UPS come and pick up the box from my front door when I check out versus having to drive it to the post office. Definitely important right now when I’m trying to avoid going anywhere.

There’s a $25 styling fee that gets applied to whatever you decide to keep in the box. Apparently, Nordstrom credit cardholders get this fee waived.

On to the clothes!

Row A Floral Godet Hem Romper ($49)

This is the first one I tried on and after I pulled it out of the wrapping I sort of laughed because it seemed really short. It was also, as I discovered a bit too tight on me, but I loved it (once I heaved it on me) and then I had to go show Chris who was on the desktop downstairs. I told him I thought it looked a little negligee-ish and we laughed, but I think he really did like it on me albeit for the wrong reasons because this was something I was supposed to wear out in public. My mom came to the house right at that moment so of course, I had to go ask her as she came in if this looked like lingerie and she laughed and I laughed and then she told me it was really cute and I said I know I really like it, but can a 34-year-old grown-ass woman wear it, or should I get in my time-traveler and go back to 2005 where it might be more appropriate? The clincher is when I was walking up my stairs and my mom laughed again and told me you could see my butt.

Clearly, the baby has something to say about her mom’s ass baring all.

Verdict: Returned. But damnit I should have kept it to prove a point that, I don’t know, almost 35-year-olds can wear this too.

Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Tank ($18.50)

This top was on sale and definitely a good price, but it was just, you know, OK on me. It had a little pocket on the front which you can see better in the second photo, but I don’t know. I wasn’t feeling it.

Verdict: Returned

All in Favor Twist Hem Crop Tank ($29)

I loved the color and feel of this top, but what in God’s name do you do with it? I have no style. I don’t get it. Someone dress me. I don’t think I was wearing it right until I was checking out online and saw the outfit suggestions. One of the models was wearing it alone with high-waisted jeans. OK, I could totally see that and have the perfect pair of jeans for it, but when all was said and done I didn’t want to pay $30 for you know, half a tank top.

Verdict: Returned

Caslon Muscle Tank Dress ($49)

The style of this dress was cute, but maybe the neckline was a bit too high for me. Not that I enjoy plunging necklines, but I felt like it was a bit too modest for me. That sounds bad. I’m a whore with attention, not my body. Anymore at least. I’m going to stop talking now.

Row A Cowl Neck Slipdress ($49)

Oh this dress was cute! Chris has a thing about uneven floppy necklines, so he was a little thrown off. I loved it though. I loved the style and pattern of this and if I was in the market for yet another summer dress I would have gladly purchased this for the price.

But again, it’s another dress I don’t really need.

Verdict: Returned

Billabong Linger on Belted Cotton Romper ($60)

Fun fact: I was a Billibong snob back in early high school. You could find me always at the local Pascun, buying clothes for all the skating and surfing and racing I never did.

Anyway, this kind of made me laugh that this a Billabong romper, but oy. I don’t know. I like it, but I didn’t like the belt in front. Or maybe I didn’t like it at all. This was an item that played with my emotions and I went back and forth if this was something I looked good in or if the belt was totally fucked from trying to untie it to scrunch my ass into it and the whole thing was just off.

Verdict: Returned

Gibson xLiving in Yellow Millie Cozy Muscle Tank ($32)

I loved the color of this tank as well as how loose and flowy it was. It was really soft material and I actually had this set aside as a big contender. I’m just a huge fan of really comfortable clothes. But in the end, I decided not to keep it.

Verdict: Returned

Nordstrom Print Modal and Silk Scarf ($39) + Le Specs Entitlement 57mm Sunglasses ($49)

I actually only have a few scarves, since I really stopped wearing them after I had kids and was hot all the time, even in the winter. I’d wear one out and would always end up taking it off. But this one I fell in love with. It’s really long so I can wrap it around myself like a shawl when I’m working in my downstairs office. It’s thin enough that it doesn’t feel all bunched up around my neck. I’m thinking I’ll get a lot of use out of it this winter, even if it will be just wearing it around the house.

As far as the sunglasses, I wasn’t sure about them taking them out of the pouch. I am pretty particular about sunglasses and tend to never follow what the latest trend is (which to me seems like it’s been oversized for years upon years). I love my smaller, oval-shaped ones, and so in putting this pair on, I wasn’t 100% sold. They’re a little bigger and rounder than what I’m used to, but I don’t think they look, you know, bad on me or anything. And they’re tinted enough that they should be perfect for wearing them out in the sun. I’ve been using Chris’s Fossil ones for the last few months since I had lost my Kate Spade ones back when Emelia was a tiny baby and my mind was lost and I put them down somewhere while out running errands and never found them again. I had gotten them free when I got my Lasik back in 2014. These ones come with a really nice pouch as well, so here’s hoping I don’t lose these.

Verdict: Kept and kept

I was also sent some black and white polka dot shorts that I couldn’t tell if they were pajamas or not. Regardless, they were still $35. But I’m happy with what I got. I needed a new pair of good sunglasses and Chris is giving me the brown and black scarf for Christmas. In a perfect world, I would have kept the Floral Godet Hem Romper, the Cowl Neck Slipdress, and the green muscle tank. But I ended up spending a total of $66.50 for the sunglasses and scarf and that’s not too bad, right?

The green tank top is gorgeous. But I think you made an excellent call on the sunglasses and scarf, and you can’t have everything in life : )

WHHYYYY can’t I have everything in life??? But now I think I’m returning the sunglasses because they push into my cheeks too much and leave lines. Boo.

The rompers were actually the items that flattered you the most out of all of the items!
