I bit the bullet and took my first dose of birth control pill—ahem, I mean, hormone replacement therapy— last night. I saw my primary last week and asked her when I should start it, because I haven’t been on birth control in FOREVAH and she told me most people take it the Sunday after their period starts so that you can sync your cycle and never get your period on a weekend.
But of course my period came last night at 10:00 and after a moment of deer-in-headlights, I swallowed my first dose. After all, since I’m a classic over-thinker, I didn’t know if getting my period on a Sunday meant I take the pill that day, or wait until the following Sunday. So I panicked and took the dang pill. (This is my life. This is the stuff that goes on in my head.)
Truth be told, I’m ready to start them. I had two hot flashes this weekend and… yeah. I’m ready to take them. I hope they help. I had plenty of hot flashes while I was on Lupron back in 2013, and they sucked. They mostly come on when I’ve been running around cleaning.
(Maybe I need to stop cleaning.)
I’ve been asked a few times if my premenopausal state and starting birth control will affect my transfer next year. Thankfully, it won’t. In fact, it may even be a perk because we could time my cycle a bit better and have more time for booking a flight and all that. Since I wasn’t on birth control the last few IVFs, we were always at the mercy of my period coming, meaning I had to call the clinic on day 1 of my cycle and only had a week to get down to Texas. So this could work out better.
So anyway, here’s hoping these hot flashes will be helped by the pills.

I hope the pills work their magic and put the hot flashes on hold. It definitely does sound much easier when the time comes to doing your next transfer!
May it work!

Gah! Thank you!
Oh man, I hope the pills help with the hot flashes. Lupron was the devil, and one of the worst things was the hot flashes. Maybe there is a link with cleaning… ha ha ha. I overthink things like that too — it’s probably fine when you took it. There are so many ways you can start the BCP. I’m glad that there is a silver lining to all this — that it might make your transfer easier is an odd bonus, but hey, grab ’em where you can! Best of luck to you as you navigate the wonders (horrors) of premenopause.

I know! Funny, I thought those hot flashes would be gone forever… at least until I hit pre-menopause at a normal age.
Here’s hoping they help! And nice silver lining that they will make the next transfer more predictable. Way to be positive! And have you had those chips and dip yet? 😉

Ha ha! See? I can be positive sometimes. And NO! I’m afraid if I get them again, I’ll just eat it all in two days like last time. Am awful.
There is definitely perks to taking the pill and that is having little to no period depending on how you take them! I hope they work for the hot flashes though!

I know. That’s a nice perk. For years now, my periods have been kind of unpredictable so that will be nice to be able to know exactly when it’s coming.
Lupron hot flashes are the worst! I’m sorry that you are having these hot flashes….fingers crossed the pills work!

Ugh. The worst. While not as drastic as the Lupron ones… these ones still suck. I’m so looking forward to cooler weather.
Hot flashes are just the worst. Just another way to make us feel freaking crazy. I am sorry for this diagnosis so young. I fear I am entering this stage too, but I’m pushing 40 so it’s more to be expected, it’s just not welcome. I hope the pill works for you!

Thank you! I know, it’s annoying it’s coming so drastically early, but… let’s just hope these pills help.
Hope it helps with the hot flashes – and next year’s transfer!

Great news your future plans aren’t affected. Hope your symptoms disappear really fast!

This sucks and I’m sorry you’re going through it. Especially after all the garbage you’ve gone through in making Olivia and fertility in general. I’m happy you’re getting some answers to your symptoms however, and am happy to hear that going on the pill might make scheduling your next FET a bit easier. When does that ever happen with infertility?! 🙂 I hate the pill but it does make scheduling so much easier. I haven’t been on it since my fresh transfer at the end of July and I’ll finally be starting the pill again this week. Fricking PCOS makes my cycles so wonky that the pill is my annoying comfort blanket.

I know. Convenience during infertility? Never.
And I’m joining you in the annoying comfort blanket thing. Here’s to it helping both of us!
Crossing my fingers the pills work wonders for you!
