If our anniversary falls during the week, we don’t tend to do much until the weekend. But this year, it was nice out, and we thought, why not?
Olivia’s actually been obsessed lately with the local ice cream shop because they switch out their flavors and it’s exciting to pick out a new one. Plus they have these homemade waffle cones, so it doesn’t take much to convince me.
Luckily, it was a beautiful evening—a nice break from the relentless heat we’ve been having. We were going out that weekend, so I was hoping it would continue to be nice. Emelia got to eat some of her daddy’s chocolate peanut butter ice cream and she was a big fan.
We did some exploring after our ice cream and Olivia wanted to show Chris the community garden we found a week prior. Olivia’s been really into taking photos with our phones, and so while we were walking around looking at the vegetables and flowers, she was busy taking a bunch of photos.
Over the weekend, my parents took both kids overnight for the first time. Emelia took forever to go to sleep, probably because not only was she away from us, but it was her first time sleeping in the pack in play. She finally fell asleep around 10 PM after watching TV happily with my parents. She slept in until 8, while Olivia had my mom up at quarter to six.
We ate at a Crave restaurant and I had lettuce wraps and we shared some sushi. We were planning on heading to a wine bar, but it wasn’t until we got back in the car that we realized they had already closed. Luckily, we found a different one to sit outside at and it ended up being pretty fantastic. It was a gorgeous evening and we each ordered a wine tour and bread and olive oil. We decided after that to get the truffle fries with dip and it was one of the best things I’ve tasted.
It was so nice, having the entire evening to ourselves. We stopped at a liquor store and bought some bottles of wine to have at home as well.
The next morning, we went to one of my favorite breakfast places and ate outside in the shade. It felt good, having that time to reconnect. The kids are with us ALL THE TIME and while I love them more than words, this year having them home with us and hardly going anywhere has been…trying.
So this was good. We need to get back to our monthly dates because it was so good for us while we were doing it and COVID made it so challenging.
Here’s to 13 years together.
