This baby has no idea what this photo means. Actually, Olivia very much does and was more than happy to help me take photos of Emelia with her embryo picture.
(You can see her and me in the reflection below)
Chris and I talk every once in awhile about the embryos that became our daughters. Our favorite musing is how these girls are technically twins had they been transferred together, since they were conceived at the same time, only Emelia was frozen for three years.
But recently, we came up with another one. We can only assume Olivia and her other embryo that transferred with her were the ones that grew first. But switch up the combination of embryos and it could have been Emelia as the big sister, and Olivia as the little one.
Science is pretty amazing. It truly took a village to bring these girls into the world. I remember thinking at this time back in 2019, if we’d have another baby. Before the infertility, I wanted two, maybe three kids. Now, we were telling ourselves the most we’ll ever have is two.
And that’s okay. These two are more than enough for us. And I mean that in the most sentimental and most exhausting ways.
Emelia just brings so much joy to our lives. She’s feisty like her older sister, but (thankfully) lacks the full extent of Olivia’s feistiness. She’s funny without realizing it. She’s probably going to be a rock climber when she grows up.
No seriously, I don’t know what the future holds for this girl, but she’s going to do great things. But don’t all parents say that about their kids?
I love Emelia’s passion for the outdoors, for Target, and for “MAC CHEESE!” I love her cheeks, her curls, her laugh, and how she smiles with her entire being. When I think of her, of who she’s become, I think of the other embryos that were frozen with her. The ones that also could have been babies. It’s a strange thing, seeing these embryos, knowing them, but not knowing them.
I’m so glad Emelia came to us. That she stuck around and is growing into this little girl who isn’t a baby anymore. She’s pretty darn amazing.
