Easter felt strange this year as it was the first holiday since COVID that we gathered with my immediate family. Luckily, it was unseasonably warm out and we spent the whole day in my parent’s backyard. I’m the most cautious of my family so this was a good trade off. I was hoping to be outside, or at least have the windows open, but we lucked out and it was gorgeous.
The day before, Olivia and I sat on her bed and I taught her how to make a potholder out of those loom things I had when I was a kid. I learned a new crochet stitch and so we sat there while Chris and the baby went on a run and we talked about how we need to practice new things to teach ourselves. Olivia’s a bit of a perfectionist and I fear my own perfectionism has rubbed off on her.
We walked along the river with coffee (and smoothies) that afternoon.
Saturday night Olivia woke up to use the bathroom right when we were setting up the Easter stuff and going to bed ourselves. Luckily, we were starting out downstairs, but were planning on hiding some eggs upstairs as well. After that, I got worried we’d get busted, so we hid a crap ton of eggs down in the basement.
And then between the two of them, the kids were up four more times overnight. I thought I was going to die. Olivia from excitement and Emelia, I think, was teething.
But the day went off without a hitch. Emelia found her baby stroller from the Easter Bunny, and Olivia got some Raya stuff.
Olivia did a good job directing Emelia to her eggs marked with an “E” and didn’t steal any. The baby just kept getting distracted by the fun colored plastic eggs.
We had an amazing Easter spread my mom made and I got to talk to my Auntie about the book she wrote (not an affiliate), and book-publishing. Olivia played with her cousins and Emelia stared at everyone a lot but loved playing with the balls in the backyard. They got to open Easter bags from my mom.
Oh, it was just so beautiful out. It was good to be with everyone again and that because we were outside I could relax a little more about COVID stuff. We were able to watch our church service online the day before.
Overall, it was a good day. Last year, when it was just the four of us, it was strange, but kind of nice. Normally, we gather with my relatives on my mom’s side, but it was more relaxing this year, just being the immediate family. Next year, Emelia will really know what’s going on and then those Easter eggs better watch out.
