We celebrated our ten year anniversary this weekend. My parents took the baby overnight and Chris and I drove down to Mall of America and stayed at a hotel right around there.
Funny enough, back when we were on our honeymoon we told each other that on our tenth wedding anniversary, we’d come back to St. Lucia. But infertility is a bitch, and finances were tight for, well, pretty much for our whole marriage. Needless to say, St. Lucia 2.0 wasn’t going to happen. At least not for awhile.
But this was a great night. We had dinner at a restaurant in the mall and then went to do some shopping. I lost about 20 pounds, so I bought some dresses and clothes I wouldn’t have been able to see myself in until now.
The hotel gave us complimentary wine for our anniversary, and we drank it out on the back patio with the fire going.
Actually, we stayed out there a lot longer than we were planning. July in Minnesota is usually stupid hot and humid, except for this night. And back for our wedding day. There was a coolness to the air and the warmth from the fireplace and it was just really nice to sit out there and talk without a toddler interrupting us. Mostly we talked about the toddler. And all the shitty places we used to live.
This is ten years. This is a decade together. Well, a decade with rings on. Life may not be what we thought it would, but were is the fun in predictability?
