Here’s part two of the summer events!
Food truck fest
I’ve never been to a food truck festival. I was always like, I don’t get this. Do you just literally walk from truck to truck and order food and just sit around eating it wash rinse repeat?
Turns out, yes, yes that’s exactly what you do. And I have two willing girls who were more than happy to spend our money on high-priced food truck food.
And it was delicious.
We had pita and hummus. Waffles with strawberries. Pizza. Orange chicken. Slushies. Ice cream. Garlic cheese bread with pizza dipping sauce. Pot stickers.
And then we saw one of my old friends from my Le Leche League days who is a henna artist. She gave Olivia some henna which Olivia then talked about for days.
Minnehaha Falls
Olivia had the last two weeks off of summer camp before school started back up, so Chris took one of those weeks off and we did a bunch of outings, including the zoo and some regional parks. I had to work a few of those days, but one of the most enjoyable trips was to Minnehaha Falls. It’s this regional park right in Minneapolis with walking trails and a waterfall.
The park has this urban vibe but you’re also walking in nature and the whole thing it pretty cool. Olivia had fun in the limestone cutouts and saw how fragile the rock was.
It was nice to be able to spend that one-on-one time with her and I think she really enjoyed getting her parents’ full attention.
State Fair
Our last summer outing was to the state fair. We hadn’t gone for the last two years. I’ve been going every year since I was 9, so it was good to be back. And the day was gorgeous. At the last minute, we decided to bite the bullet and take Olivia along for her first time, warning her it was a lot of walking.
And she was a champ. It was definitely different bringing her with us versus it being just the two of us. We avoided some of the crowded buildings like the Grandstand because it was going to be too hard to watch her. But there are a ton of kid activities to do, and she had a blast.
School starts again soon, and while I’m most definitely ready for it, I’m glad we were able to get out on these summer adventures.
