Tell me about prometrium

This one is for my bleeps (blogging peeps) out there who are, or have taken Prometrium orally during the 2WW.

Just learned that the horriblemakeitstop! itching I’ve been having, but haven’t disclosed to you until now is now indeed a raging yeast infection.  I am taking progesterone suppositories, so I called the clinic tonight and my doctor called me back (First time since initially meeting with him.  I guess I should have asked how his family was doing before diving right into my itching naughty bits.)

So I am to stop the progesterone suppositories tonight, start Monostat, and tomorrow he is going to call in a prescription for Prometrium 200 mg oral to take twice a day until the beta.

Have you guys taken this?  I’m just a little nervous because I know oral progesterone can be less effective than the suppository or shots.  Have you had icky side effects that are different than the suppositories?

Answers appreciated!

We're you taking Crinone? O.M.Goodness. My body did not like that at all! I had the same fiery burning itching that you probably have been feeling and it sucked big time!! I've never taken the oral stuff. We moved right on to the shots the next time, so I have no advise there. I wish you lots of luck and hope the infection goes away quickly. I feel for ya sister!

That sucks. I haven't taken oral progesterone before so I am of no help. Hope it clears up quickly, though.

I didn't do oral progesterone, but I did lozenges that I dissolved under my tongue (in addition to the vaginal suppositories/cream). I have also done the shots (which were HELL for me!) Good luck!

I did Prometrium suppositories (not orally) for the 2WW and through my first trimester with my daughter. My my first IVF pregnancy I did POI IM injections…ouch…but better than having the things shoved "up" down there. Best of luck! When is your first BETA?

No it was just the progesterone supps. The nurse today said it was my body reacting to it. Ugh.

Technically Feb 28. I still have to schedule my appointment. So you thought PIO was better? I'm terrified of that, but I guess I'm doing the pills as of now. I feel a little nervous because I don't want it to not work as well as the supp did. Although it is a relief not to be constantly leaking.

Crazy. There are so many ways to take it. I had no idea. I hope they don't want me to move to shots… 🙁

Thanks Jen! Always a good time around here 🙂

Yech I know. I hate these things and this one is pretty bad 🙁

I took the prometrium orally 3x a day for both of my IVF cycles. My levels increased like it should. Side effects include fatigue and feeling a little loopy after taking it. I think I will have to do the PIO shots during my third IVF since I am going to a new clinic.

Oh I'm so glad you commented. That makes me feel better, although I will be taking a pill in the morning and then get to go to work and save lives. Fun times being loopy. I'm sure my boss will love that. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my blog!

UGH! I've been there with the suppositories and yeast infection! Plus! I learned that I am allergic to synthetic progesterone. Not only did my lady bits itch, but they got swollen and sore. 🙁 Natural progesterone, while still just as messy and gross, worked much better for me.
My clinic doesn't do oral progesterone (or whatever it is), at least I don't believe it is offered, so I'm not much help. They definitely don't offer PIO, as I asked.

I had such a love/hate relationship with prometrium. The side effects weren't so bad since i only took it at bed time-i tried during the day, but i couldn't stay awake for the life of me. I had really low progesterone (5.0) and with the prometrium it went up to 19.

The nurses had told me the next day that it was probably a reaction from the suppositories. I do have to say, I am like the pills much better.

You're lucky, Ashley because they have me on them twice a day so I get really tired in the morning.

I wad on a double dose too..can't remember the strength but they told me i could take them together..the constipation was the worst. Sorry you have to do twice a day! I did for about a week-it was awful. But with everything else you 've gone through the prometrium is nothing! Praying for you!
