Ever since I bought the girls their costumes back in August at the kids’ consignment sale, I wondered what was going to happen with Halloween. I sort of kicked myself because I forgot that this would even be an issue just like literally everything else in our lives.
Finally, I decided that if we can eat in restaurants, we can take the kids trick or treating for brief encounters in an outdoor setting, you know, sort of like when I drive through a fast food place and get my food from the person out a window. Halloween this year was in the 50s with some pretty righteous winds, but overall, it’s been much milder than some recent years, especially given that it snowed not too long ago.
Olivia was Wonder Woman, complete with shield and Nella sword. Emelia was a unicorn, fluffy with padding and she even kept her hood on.
Chris’s work put on a Zoom event for the parents and kids last Thursday evening with a magician. Olivia was fascinated by the real bunny they used.
Saturday, we hit up a local coffee shop to decorate mini pumpkins outside. Olivia decorated both pumpkins and Emelia just wanted to eat hers.
Check out this adorable Halloween kitty dress. Since Olivia doesn’t let me dress her like this anymore, I’m so glad I have one last willing participant. We’ll see how long this lasts.
Since Emelia refused to fall asleep for her afternoon nap until 5:15 on Halloween, we had a late start getting to my parents. The wind was crazy and Olivia forgot her shield, but overall, it worked out really well. We wore our masks, and a lot of the houses had candy set out in bowls, so I felt comfortable with the level of risk. Emelia rode like a joey in Chris’s jacket, so she was nice and warm, and collected some good candy for me.
It’s so fun watching Olivia trick or treat. She marches right up to doors, knocks, and then knows to say “Trick or Treat!” and then thank you at the end. Then it’s on to the next house.
My mom passed out Halloween goody bags. Olivia has been into Legos, so she loved her set, along with a book, Goldfish crackers, coloring book, and a few other things I’m forgetting now. Emelia didn’t react too much for her touch and feel book, and Dumbo beanie baby, but came alive when she saw the soft blocks in her bag. She loves to hold things, so she was all about them. She also got a Minnie car that moves across the floor.
The next morning, my house was trashed with candy, costumes, and toys, but they loved playing with their stuff and I kind of got to drink coffee with Chris in semi peace.
Overall, a great Halloween. Especially since it was on a Saturday. Don’t ask me how daylight savings went, but for Halloween we win at life. Except for the fact that we forgot to carve a pumpkin.
Legos are going to be the death of me! haha It’s all good except at this moment the stuff Bowen picks I have to put together for him to take apart a day later..ugh!
