I’ve officially been a crocheter for one month. August 13th, I started my first foundation chain practice. Once I got that down, I started practicing my single and double crochets. I made all sorts of hideous things, much to Olivia’s delight because she got to keep it all.
I missed end stitches (constantly) and really had to improve my tension. Olivia’s “little lovey” was the first thing I was like, “OK, I’m sort of proud of this even if it’s still a hot mess.”
I wanted to be ambitious and make a lap blanket and I honestly think I did OK, even though it definitely wasn’t close to perfect. I learned yarn weight matters, as I accidentally got too thick of yarn in yellow, but honestly, I think it still turned out good.
Once I made that, I went to work on a scarf and learned—after the fact—how to avoid holes on the sides.
I ended up doing a border and was finally happy with how it turned out.
Here are some of the other things I’ve made since then.
Fall table runner
A small scarf for my mom practicing two stitches in the same piece A lovie for Olivia practicing the v-stitch A mug rug for Chris And of course, one for me An infinity scarf for my sister
And the finished piece
I’ve also been working on a Christmas table runner as well as one for my mom for Christmas. And yesterday I learned the moss stitch for a security blanket for Olivia.
I’m obsessed. It’s been so good for my anxiety, practicing these stitches over and over, perfecting them. I’ve vastly improved my edges and tension and it’s so fun seeing what I can create out of balls of yarn.

Thank you! It’s been slow going, but yes, I’ve gotten so much better. It’s fun. I wish I would have started before.
Wow. I’m impressed!

Me too! 😉 I’m so intimidated to make a full-length blanket but can’t wait to do it.
Hurrah for you!!!!!! Thankyou for sharing the joy!

Wow! You have come a long way in only a month!

I have. I love taking photos of the finished pieces because it’s a good reminder.
Very cool! Nice job on your projects and improving your stitches.

Thank you! It’s been quite the feat with getting straight edges, and I still struggle with it, depending on the type of stitch.
So beautiful! I love the table runner with the pumpkins. I tried knitting and enjoyed it but not enough to do it instead of reading, I wonder if crocheting is harder or easier?

I have nothing to compare it to, but apparently crocheting is easier. I do it a lot while watching TV! And thank you!
