He reflects on his first Father’s Day 2015

Risa and I went to a baby shower for two of our friends this past weekend. It was the first non-work one I’ve been too. What amazed me was watching my friend who will have his baby born in a few weeks, act like a dad-to-be. Him, who can be just as nerdy/geeky as me, preparing to be a dad. I thought about how different he looked compared when we lived with each other in college.

After that, we got to meet a beautiful new baby girl (born two days before Father’s Day), and celebrate with her parents. She is their miracle baby, and they have waited so long. That was evident when we ran into the dad, the pure joy and elation on his face. He was so giddy, and I couldn’t help but smile and think to myself…are these glimpses into what I will look like in a few months?

Six months ago, I didn’t even know if I would ever get to experience those moments but this weekend I got to celebrate Father’s day with Risa. It was emotional and amazing all at once. We listened to our baby’s heartbeat and I got to open cards from both Risa and Seaweed, and even got a gift from both of them.  Risa got me a t-shirt.

Seaweed got me the exact same book that Risa’s dad use to read to her when she was a little girl.

The thought of reading this book to our little baby brings a smile to my face every time I think about it. I can’t wait for our baby shower, I can’t wait to be that proud giddy daddy when telling people about Seaweed, and I especially cannot wait to read that book.

How I have changed over the years…

Little Seaweed isn’t even born and yet I know, I’m already putty in those little hands. I’ll never forget where I’ve come from because I’ll be a better dad for remembering how lucky we are to have Seaweed with us.
