Trunk Club review #1

I have a confession to make. I’m a clothing subscription box whore. This time I’m trying out Trunk Club, which is like Stitch Fix and Trendsend, but they do some things differently which is pretty cool. So let’s dive in, shall we? And if you decide to try it, use my link and you’ll get a $50 credit when you make your first purchase!

Trunk Club review

Trunk Club is Nordstrom’s online styling service and it works similar to other clothing subscription boxes. I actually like this concept because you know you’re getting high quality clothes from Nordstrom. You fill out a style profile and if you’re looking for any particular items of clothing. Then you’re assigned a stylist and (here’s the best part) they will send you a preview of what they picked out before it sends to you. That way you can look over everything and remove anything you don’t like or is too expensive and can even replace them with other items. Just like other subscriptions, you keep what you like and mail back what you don’t. Another awesome perk is that I can have UPS come and pick up the box from my front door when I check out versus having to drive it to the post office. Definitely important right now when I’m trying to avoid going anywhere.

There’s a $25 styling fee that gets applied to whatever you decide to keep in the box. Apparently, Nordstrom credit cardholders get this fee waived.

I did end up switching some items out that were either NOT my style or way too pricey. My stylist ending up subbing some things that didn’t jive with me (see the first item ha!) but overall, I actually really liked this trunk! Spoiler (I ended up buying 3 of 11 items which was good for me, and all the things I bought were discounted.

Want to see them, along with my terrible photography? Fashion blogger I will never be. Though I prefer to think of myself as “that blogger that takes shitty photos, but OMG she’s SO REAL!”

Kut from the Kloth Connie High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans ($66.75)

I’m not going to lie. I laughed out loud and called Chris into the room when I took these jeans out. Then I sent a photo to my friend and we laughed and laughed but then she was like Risa for real, I kind of like them with the right top.

And I was like OK but for $66 I can’t do it even if it’s just to provide entertainment. They went back in the box.

Verdict: Returned

Caslon Track Style Linen Pants ($59)

These pants weren’t so bad. They had a comfortable material and I did like the color. I wish they were shorter because I’d want to wear them in warmer weather. What got me in the end was the price, as it usually goes. I didn’t want to pay that much for something that didn’t blow my mind.

Verdict: Returned

Chelsea28 Cross Back Jacquard Camisole ($59) + Kut from the Kloth Amy Crop Straight Leg Jeans ($59.25)

I hate short shirts. I wore them when I was in 7th through 10th grade when that was the style and my stomach looked great, but that is not the case now. So I put this on and immediately hated it.

And the black jeans…were just that. They were ok. They fit. But I guess I wasn’t in the market for them, so back they went.

Verdict: Returned & returned

Wit & Wisdom Ab-Solution Retro High Waist Denim Bermuda Shorts ($43.50)

So short things are my enemy, but I get hot in the summer. Therefore, I need shorts, but for the love they can’t be too short. My thighs are not my strong point. I’ve never had shorts this long before, but I put them on and loved them.

Plus they were 25% off, and I could definitely justify $43. Take my money. I’ll practically live in these this summer.

Verdict: Kept

NYDJ Perfect Sleeveless Blouse ($59.25)

So this was a cute top. It fit. Maybe it could have been a tish longer. But the looseness felt good. But it was pricey for a plain white top. And I have two kids. No way this is staying white.

Verdict: Returned

Gibson Crinkle Split Neck Top (36.75)

It’s funny the difference in price for tops that are essentially the same, but in a different color. This one was on sale for $37 and even though it was still a plain top, I liked it.

Trunk Club review #1

It was a little longer than the white one and obviously this one will hide grubby fingers better. I can dress it up or down. So it seemed like a win to me.

Verdict: Kept

KUT from the Kloth ‘Helena’ Denim Jacket ($59.25)

I’ve actually been trying for a denim jacket and this one was really cute. I like the shortness (see, I’m a good fashion blogger), and would have paid this much in the stores for one I liked.

But I don’t know. I hesitated. I don’t really know why because I did like it. Maybe the thing was, when all was said and done I already wanted to purchase three other items and couldn’t then justify another $60.

Verdict: Returned

Treasure & Bond Sleeveless Tie Waist Midi Dress ($79)

I thought I was going to love this dress, but I put it on and…ugh. Totally wasn’t feeling it. For one, it was an XL and my profile says M-L in dresses. Maybe if it fit better it would have looked different? But I honestly felt like I gained ten pounds in my waist. Not. Flattering.

It was lightweight and it felt like I could actually wear it in the summer without sweating, so I was kind of sad it didn’t work out.

Verdict: Returned

TOMS Sicily Sandal ($48.30)

These sandals were 40% off and I have nothing like them. In fact, I wear a lot of flip flops in the summer and don’t have a lot of dressier sandals. I put these on and fell in love. Oh, TOMS sandals, how I love you. All 40% off of you.

Trunk Club review #1

These were definitely keepers.

Verdict: Kept

The only thing I was disappointed in was the fact that I ordered a sports bra and it was way too small. Like, I was probably an XL and I got a medium. ????? Pretty sure I wouldn’t have put a tiny bust like that in my style profile, but there you go. That was clearly returned.

Want to try out Trunk Club? I’d love it if you’d sign up under my link and you’ll get a $50 credit when you go check out from your first trunk (I will too!)

Absolutely 100% agree with your returns and keeps! Do however want to say the cobalt blue of Chelsea28 Cross Back Jacquard Camisole is fabulous on your skin and coloring. WOW!!! I love getting to see your outfits and hear your reasoning. Do you think intense colors the black and cobalt as examples are generally good on you? Or were these specific to these examples?
    THANK YOU for this post.
You will love those shorts this summer!

Normally I would like a color like that. It’s just the shortness of the top I wasn’t liking. But I agree, I did love the color!

I like reading your posts so much that I read all of them, whether I’m necessarily interested in stitch fix or whatever or not! I love reading your writing. 🙂 I got stitch fix for a while, and I really did enjoy it and averaged buying about one or two items per fix. I love Nordstrom‘s but would be worried about the prices, as well, although those prices on your items are pretty good. Oh and you look very cute in those items!

Ha ha!!!! Thanks Kristina! I found the prices when the items were on sale with Nordstrom’s was comparable to Stitch Fix. I was reading somewhere that the quality of Stitch Fix items that were their own brand has gone downhill and that makes me nervous purchasing something that’s over what I would normally pay for something.

Ok so the first pants remind me of middle school when those blue and white shorts were popular..haha Love the shorts!! Thighs are not my best part so I always go with longer shorts. I like the fact that you can change some things out before it ships. I may try this out, especially since you have a nifty credit attached!!
