Forgotten drafts: Thank God Billy Gilman’s back.

This post has been sitting in my drafts folder since December 2016. This is what I had written:

How I haven’t heard this song in forever and then he’s on The Voice. Chris hasn’t heard the song before. I sang this in the musical. (Awkward.)

I used to belt out “One Voice” when I was in the shower all.the.time. #embarrassingmoments #shared #becauseIhaveablog

So let me break down this weird draft post.

I hearted Billy Gilman back in the day—I was a freshman in high school. Obsessed with “One Voice.”

I totally forgot we sang this in our church musical.

I totally forgot I sang a solo of this song in our church musical. And I was probably very awkward.

I hadn’t thought of this song in years.

Then he appears on The Voice. Here it is, in case you want a listen. Related: Billy Gilman is actually a pretty good singer. Must Spotify him.

When Chris and I saw him on TV I spit out my chips and dip and pointed at the screen.

“That’s freakin Billy Gilman! Remember him?”

Chris frowned at the TV and shook his head.

“No, I don’t think I ever heard of him.”

Cue a lot of “What????”s and “How could you not know who Billy Gilman was???”

I don’t remember what happened after that, but I probably YouTubed him to play “One Voice.” And to sing along.

So fast forward to today. I might currently be singing this song (loudly) in between typing this. But here’s the kicker: Chris came in the room just now.

“You know what I need to find on Spotify?” I said, grabbing my phone and typing. “Billy Gilman!”

“Who?”

“BILLY GILMAN!”

“Who’s that?”

That, folks, is why blog posts like this come full circle (and have a point**). 2020 Chris still doesn’t know who this singer is just like 2016 Chris didn’t either.

And then 30 minutes later I was starting dinner and shouted to Chris in the next room: “See if you can find Billy Gilman on Spotify!”

“So Billy who?” he called back.

“Billy GILMAN!”

“Billy Gilbin?”

“BILLY GIL-MAN!” (That was Olivia.)

Billy Gilman

**Maybe I don’t have a point to all this.

I like to smell Olivia
