The Transfer: Galveston

We’re in Texas, Y’all! We flew in Friday morning after an hour and a half delay. Not a huge deal, but it did make us a few minutes late to the appointment when I thought we’d have a good hour to kill where we could find somewhere to eat. Instead, we didn’t get to eat until after 2:00 and we were both pretty shaky being that we ate a McDonald’s breakfast at the airport at 5 in the morning and then some chips on the plane. But we got to see our doctor again and it was so good to see him. He just has this happy positive personality which should be a requirement if you’re trying to get infertile couples pregnant, but sadly, he’s a bit of an anomaly.

The Transfer: Galveston

He called my uterus “perfect” and the lining was 9.5 mm and he wants it between 7 and 13. Estrogen was 1,751. Everything looked good overall, and we’re a go for Wednesday! The nurse drew circles on my backside where Chris has to inject the progesterone and we started PIO that night.

We got to our beach bungalow in Galveston around 4:00. The place is adorable, even if I’m constantly slamming my shoulder into something.

And check out those stairs!

We walked the four blocks to the ocean to walk in the water for a bit and then we went back to make a frozen pizza and drink the wine our Airbnb hosts left us.

PIO. Ah. You know, when I was doing IVF #1, IVF #2, IVF #3, Donor Cycle #1, and Donor Cycle #2 all within the span of two years, I got used to the PIO injections. But now, it’s been three years and you know, I’m not really all that used to them anymore. And so I was pretty much dreading them.

Wine helped for sure. But it sucked. It hurt. We forgot to buy a tennis ball that Chris would usually rub on me, and I didn’t have a warm pack.

The next day, after Skyping with my mom and Olivia, one of my best friends from TX, C, drove down with her daughters to spend the day with us, and we started out at Shrimp and Stuff where I got my coconut shrimp. We ate here last time we were in Galveston and this time didn’t disappoint.

We spent a few hours at the ocean again, collecting shells and catching up before she had to drive home and do my second PIO shot. Still hurt.

Sunday, we Skyped again with Olivia and she seemed to still be doing good, but my mom said she’s starting to notice we’ve been gone awhile. Ugh. You guys. I miss my baby. Of course, Chris and I drove to downtown Galveston and I ate a giant pretzel at StuttGarden, so that sort of helped take the edge off.

It’s been so hot and humid here. I mean, it snowed this weekend in Minnesota, so I know a lot of people reading this probably hate me, but it’s SO HOT HERE.

After a lunch there, we shopped around a bit more before heading back to our bungalow. We had dinner at a place on the beach and I had coconut shrimp again.

The third PIO shot that night hurt bad. So bad I was hanging over the bed squeezing my eyes shut and tears were streaming down my face as I waited for it to be over. I don’t know why sometimes it holyhellhurts and then other times, well, just hurts. I don’t know, and I know Chris felt bad, but he wasn’t the one getting stabbed with a rusty razor blade, so I think I got it worse.

Yesterday morning, we went to this little bakery cafe our fertility doctor recommended to us and it was delightful. Plus we had the cute waiter with the French accent and I may have oogled him to my sister later tonight. We spent more time on the beach, and this time I walked out further into the ocean where the waves were huge because of the hurricane. I got slammed and soaked and didn’t have a swimsuit and it was the most I’ve laughed in a while. Chris stayed on shore and searched for shells and probably was embarrassed by the moron squealing in the ocean, but I needed that time to let loose and get drenched fully dressed.

Also, we were trying to come up with a nickname for the embryo and you guys might remember back then with Olivia, how we called her Seaweed. Nothing we were coming up with was good enough, but then Chris blurted out something so bloody brilliant and adorable and now we have a nickname for the embryo. Stay tuned. 😉

I have everything crossed for you. And can I just say, why why why? Why does the PIO have to hurt so freaking much?? Why is this not something medicine has solved?

Can’t wait to read the new embryo’s nickname. You’ve got this.

Yay so exciting. Yep it’s hot in this neck of the woods BUT a nice cool front came through this morning so you should be a bit better. I would totally try and meet you except for the sick kiddo I have right now and that pesky thing called work ugh!! Our favorite place is Willy G’s in Galveston. It’s not cheap but that is our special, once a year place to go 🙂 We have been trying to go since our anniversary in May and it still hasn’t happened since said sick kid gets sick every time we try to plan a day to go.

Yes! It was actually like almost 90 in Galveston and then we get to Houston on the first day of the cool weather in Galveston. Luckily for me that was my last clean shirt and it was a T shirt vs a tank top. That would have been so much fun to meet!!! Boo for sick babes. I saw Willy Gs! Sheesh, that would have been fun. Next time, we’ll definitely try it!
