Girls and Dolls

Somehow, I have no idea when, Olivia turned into a little girl who knows how to take care of all of her babies. Remember when I said in her last update that she fed her baby doll a bottle for three seconds once?

Ok, so maybe I do know when it started.

You guys, this girl loves her babies. Feeding her babies. Rocking her babies (kind of). Gathering them all together on the couch with her to watch Curious George.

I know I’m a little bit biased, but this is probably the cutest thing she’s ever done.

This past week, she’s been all about her babies. And it’s way better than her dumping her Mega Blocks all over the living room floor and then promptly growing bored of them, so I call it a win-win for both of us.

And it’s not just her babies that she tries to convince to drink from the bottle:

Though maybe Toby isn’t as willing as she would like. That’s ok. She’s learned to roll with the punches.

She kills me, you guys. I know I sound like a broken record, but there is something about your little baby acting like, well, not a little baby anymore. One who knows how to give her dolls a bottle and covers them with a blanket and sees you rocking them in the little cradle, so she does it too.

Full disclosure: This video is about 2:30, a longer than the average Internet user’s attention span, but if you stick around until the end, you get to see my toddler burst into tears—for no reason whatsoever.

It does blow my mind. Especially, as you said, when they imitate you. I mean, I know they will sometime. But.. they’re our babies.

Too adorable! Maybe she realized there was only one sock. 😀

That could very well be. I guess we’ll never know.

The unfairness of a world where even dolls must wear socks!

    That was really cute 🙂

No kidding. Olivia would say that was the biggest injustice ever.

I know. I never thought a 14 month old could be so nurturing. It kind of makes me want to cry. No joke.

So cute!! My little Avery still has no time for babies. She’s not the nurturing type. Hopefully that changes before the twins arrive!

I know! It’s so weird, because it’s like, she really didn’t take bottles. She must have taken enough to keep it in the back of her tiny little brain…

My little guy also loves taking care of his “babies” although to him that mostly means undressing them then bringing them to me to get re-dressed. Last night he kept undressing one doll then bringing her to me to tell me she was cold. It is such an amazing thing to see them growing and understanding the world around them. 🙂

My daughter hasn’t been that interested in babies until her brother came along. Her great grandmother got her a baby and she never plays with it. (I’m actually fine with that- I was the same way when I was a kid). Instead, she takes her stuffed animals and calls them her babies. A few months ago she was even “nursing” them (out of her belly button) while I would nurse my son- it was hilarious!
